Twitter has definitely enhanced my learning of EIR.
Firstly, I was never interested in using twitter. I find it annoying. The reason is because everyone is using it. It gets confusing when twitter messages appears in my friend's facebook account, and it gets more frustrating when people keep saying " follow me!".
I just don't get twitter,
Until I actually tried it. Haha!XD
It is fun. Its like another platform of SMS(short message system) except that it is free!
So how does it help in EIR?
I can share my research links and communicate with my friends via twitter. It applies very well because all people have to do is to click on the research link and all the information will be provided. The efficiency of twitter is that It can be done even if I have a mobile phone which supports its system. I can update people on myself, on anything, anywhere I am. It is so efficient that I believe it has reached the next level of communication; fast-paced worldwide update system.
I use it often for communication purposes, cracking jokes, look up on friend's updates, but on top of that, I find it useful because I get to share WHAT I FEEL is useful for others, or what I want others to be updated about. This is something I love about twitter; it is simple, manageable, and quick.
I can use blogger and twitter to help ain in my research by posting questions regarding my topic. That way, people can read and respond whenever they want to. Its a freedom platform, where we can share our feelings, thoughts and views with one another, so why not use it for the benefit of the greater good?=)

Practical 6 reflection=)
I feel that using invisible web to search for information is useful to a certain extent. Every search facility has its own advantage and disadvantage. On the invisible web, I get articles which are more related to my research topic, however, some research mediums like images and videos which are relevant, are hard to come by.
However, knowing about the invisible web is good knowledge, because it has widen my area of research. Now, I have many search facilities which I can use to search for information. Every search facility has its own effectiveness. It is how you apply yourself to it, that makes it useful. I have alot to learn about search facilities, and after knowing a few, I am glad that I have learned new things which I never thought I would know.
I might use invisible web for my diploma because it might be able to help me do research regarding my work on Environment Design. I will have to practically apply my knowledge of invisible web to see whether it can help me for my diploma.=)
I have learn that the research I made to be added on to the wiki page of my Topic is redundant because most of the research has been made by other students. This is because Tsunamis don't happen everyday and it is a major event and it happens when there is climate change or when disaster strikes. Therefore, I can only research on the latest tsunami occurrences, which I find hard to do because most of them are not updated yet either because it is still ongoing or latest information has not been updated yet.

Tutorial 1&2 reflection=)
Personally, I feel that after sharing my views and thoughts regarding the topic that was put up on facebook, I feel more braver because I get to share my thoughts online with people who I barely know, and get feedback from them. I feel that I can express myself freely as it is a platform where I can just say what I feel about the topic. Obviously, there has to be limitations. There must be a line drawn between me and the topic, and a second line needs to be drawn between me and the other people in that discussion forum.
I feel that this is important as to prevent arguments from occurring until it is uncontrollable. A discussion forum is a platform to share views, not to harass or hit on others and argue blindly. It is all about facts,
but still, Mutual Respect must exist in s discussion forum in order for it to succeed.=)
Compared to traditional face-to-face discussion, I feel that I say a lot more in a discussion forum, than when I'm on a one-on-one conversation. This is because I have the chance to pause and think thoroughly as to what I want to say, and I can update others more if I ever left out some things.
I find this activity very meaningful because it has given me the helping step of entering a world that I do not engage in before. After this tutorial, it is definitely an eye opener for me and I would definitely consider online forum discussion for my future purposes=)

practical 4&5 reflection=)
ANOTHER PRACTICAL!!!
So, what did I learn this time?=)
Hm, I learn that by using different search facilities, it can widen my research and I can find different mediums of research from different search facilities. Using metacrawler allows me to search for information in a very direct and quick way because it will search through registered search engines like Yahoo or Google to find related information regarding my search query. Although it has a strict number of word limitation in its search box and I have to compromise my search query, I find it useful because it gives me information from various websites. Images and videos are also present when I use Metacrawler to search.
However, If I use Yahoo subject Directory, It is a bit different. This is because the information is well organized and is much more relevant to my research topic. Its result size is far much more smaller then compared to Metacrawler. I realize that when I use Yahoo directory to search for information, I end up getting links from the same website, which is Wikipedia. I realize this happens because it directs me to the website which is searches for and locates a single websie which has all the information I need. Although useful , I cannot rely on one single website for information. I need to look from different websites in order to expand my research.
Honestly, I love wiki because of its easy edit platform. It allows me to update or edit, change or remove information inside a wiki page so tat I can contribute willingly. I find this very useful and it is my first time to actually use such a facility where you can actually compile all your works together to form a base page where all the information regarding a common topic is showcased.
What I like best about collaborating with other students is that they give feedback. Feedback is important because by having them, it means someone is sharing their perspective on thing which might be different from you. That is where we can start to converse and share our knowledge and have a more in depth view regarding a common topic.
After knowing about EIR wiki spot, I will definitely look up to in every now and then to read on interesting facts. Maybe, I will add abit of my own research if I am interested.
The freedom to contribute is wonderful.
I love it=)

Practical 3 reflection=)
So, what did I learn from practical 3?
Well, firstly, research strategy. It is a must have before every research. In the past, I use to type in common words, or type in blindly in the Google search engine to look for information. After this practical, I am surprised there is actually a method for researching at its best. I have been doing research for 10 years and after all these years, this method can actually help me in so many ways; faster research, save more time, energy efficient, more search results will pop out the way I want them too because the methods are systematized.
Firstly, I have to have a search query.
A search query is that keyword you use to search for something.
For example, If you want to look up for flamingo,
you search, "guns"
But that alone is not enough. This is because the key words are too common. If I was to do that, I will end up with millions of search results which are irrelevant to flamingo.
That will be a waste of time, wouldn't it?
That is why, we have to come up with the right and effective keywords, as well as keyword variations. Why? This is because a search engine strictly searches for these keywords if you systematically put them in the order that is most effective. That is why, such a thing called Boolean Operators existed=)
After using Google search engine, I find it very interesting. This is because, I never knew the more strategic side of using Google search engine before. With the Boolean Operators, searching in Google is much more effective. Google has its advance feature which can be used to further detail and narrow down my search into more accurate ones. I am beginning to appreciate Google's functions and also beginning to learn more about its features. I feel that it is important for me to fully understand how a search engine works, because it will definitely help me to do my research and come up with better results.
Participating in discussion forums is good because you might never know the little bits of information you can get by talking to others. These information , you can never get in websites because these information are from their own perspectives. Personally, I find it very useful and I do not feel shy or threatened to talk to them because they might have different views from me and it is always good to learn from one another.
Practical 3 has definitely improved my researching skill and I will definitely apply them in the future.=)

If I have 500 dollars in my pocket=)
IF I HAVE $500 DEES???
Hahaha. "Dees" is a slang for money in New York.
Haha, well, if I have 500 dollars right now, I have so many things I want to buy; it will take alot of time for me to summarize what I want. Honestly, I don't spend. I do not shop a lot. Even my friends say so. XD
I only get what I NEED, and ONLY if I ave extras, I will get those I WANT. =)
So here goes !!!
FIRST IN THE LIST IS :
SUPRA SKYTOP 2 Chad Muska Signature Model!
Yeah. I am a big fan of Supra shoes. Supra is a footwear brand. It is more higher end than norml shoes fit for teens, in my personal opinion. I feel that Supra shoes have a little "kick" in them, because when I wear them I feel I'm walking on money. You know why? it is because they are quiet expensive. The cheapest ones I ever remember is 180 dollars. Yes. 180 dollars for a shoe.
Talk about spending, huh?
Well, apparently this one is about $320. XD
http://www.boardsandstuff.com/shop/index.php?cPath=1&sort=2a&filter_id=3

I would want this if I had 500 dollars.
SECOND ON THE LIST IS :
AL-Quran (Holy Quran)
Yeah....
I'm not that good of a somebody, you know? But this is the basis of my religion. The words of God, and well, I have been reading the book as long as I an remember. It helps calm myself down and show me guidance in times of need. There are stories inside which I have yet to understand. For me, reading it is a never ending task. Because there is always something new to learn.
Hm, I have never actually bought one before. Mine was given by my grandfather. Therfore, I would set aside 80 dollars for this. Maybe get a limited edition one, with engravings and so on.=)

So, this will leave me with 100 dollars...
Honestly, with the 100 dollars left,
I will donate it to charity, or to the Masjid(mosque) or the orphanage.
I HAVE NEVER EVER DONATED 100 DOLLARS WILLINGLY. Maybe because I am not working and such; I would donate up to 10 dollars at most when I go for my Friday prayers.
But given this chance, I would love to do that with 100 dollars=)
SO THATS IT.
500 DEES GONE.
XD

Lesson 1 and 2 reflection=)
During lessons one and two, we were taught the basics of the internet and its facilities. I learn about different types of internet resources like Blogs and Wikis, online forums, newsgroups, Databases, electronic journals and magazines, multimedia resources and LOTS more. Of course, I have known about a few of the these internet resources, but there were a few which were unknown to me until I actually learn about them. One of them is Wiki.
What I understand about a wiki is that it is actually a website which allows, anyone, visiting the site to edit, remove or add all contents, very quickly and easily, sometimes without registration. It uses an "open-editing" system which allows the collaboration of documents to happen. The thing that is funny? The word "wiki" is actually a short version of the Hawaiian word "wiki wiki", which means fast.
Another internet resource which I like is Online forum. It a platform that provides discussion, and is done online or in virtual community. It all began in the year 1996. I had no clue about this. I have ever use online forums for discussion. I use it to check for sellers, buyers, latest video games, game discussions, apparel shopping where I can know about new shoes, SUPRA shoes to be exact.=)
For me, an online forum is a place where people can share their views with other people, even to those they can't meet/reach out to. For instance, I can share my views about hurricane Katrina with a person who is living there, and from there, I can get more information from the person directly, regarding that matter, because discussing personally is actually more relevant ; the person is a direct resource for me.

These images are from an online forum where gamers can discuss and share their opinions, even trade discussion andtalk to other players, share secrets. I picked this Digimon forum because I play the game on my Nintendo DS. I watch the cartoon and movie ever since I was a kid and now when I have time, espcially during bus rides home or to school, or anywhere, I will power up my DS and hit the game! its interactive XD
So, If I have an account for that forum, most probably I can communicate with other players.
I know, there are other better games out there, but I'm sticking to this one till the very end and you ain't gon' do notin' to stop MEYH! YA DIGGGG???? =)
Moving on, I also earn about organizational websites and personal websites. Subject based websites, which focuses more on a particular subject. Some subjects are more easily found than others in these subject based websites. Some of thee subjects are Government, Business, Technology, History, humanities, sciences and many more.
In lesson 2, I learn about the purposes of internet resources; Information, Advocacy, Business, News, Personal, Entertainment. Advocacy is a new word to me. The purpose is to influence public opinions, attempt to increase membership in an organization, promote causes, campaign for people to support!
I also learn about strategies on researching. I shouldn't use single common words when searching, but use multiple keywords, for it. Using the right search facility like search engine, meta search engine, subject directory, will also help us in our research. The use of Brackets and Boolean operate Like "AND" and "OR", stemming the keywords or even using wildcards will make our search more effective.
While doing practical 1 and 2,
I tried applying what i have learn and it definitely made a difference in my research.
I believe that learning more about the internet and its functions is important because it can help me do my work faster, get better results, within a short time.
More things to learn next?
definitely.
till then.
peace out.
